Moving out and taking ground

Playing a unit is only half of it. Points come from getting units out of your base and onto battlefields, and from knowing when to walk them home again.

Moving exhausts a unit, and any move triggers resolve before you conquer. Taking ground nobody is standing on scores 1, but it is the battlefield that scores, not the unit. The standard move runs both ways — base to battlefield, or battlefield back to base — so a retreat is always available and costs the same exhaust as an advance; only battlefield-to-battlefield needs [Ganking]. And a hold you cannot win is usually worth giving up while the unit is still alive: you keep ground only while a unit of yours is standing on it, so walking away does hand it back.
